The Cameroon women’s football championship, 2022/2023, dubbed the Guinness Super League, kicks off Saturday, June 14, at the Ngoa Ekelle Stadium.
Following the tradition, the opening ceremony would be a celebration of women’s football, fan clubs, and those contributing to the promotion of her game.
The season’s curtain raiser an attractive pairing between Lekie Filles and Éclair Filles of Saa. The teams scouted for fresh blood to beef up their squads and are ready for the head-on.
Like last year, twelve teams were on the starting block. Newcomers are AS Fortuna and Ngadeu FC.
The teams booked their spot in the top tier league following the relegation of Vision FC of Bamenda and Rennaissance of Guider last season.
Sad to note, no team from the Northwest or Southwest regions qualified for the top-tier league this season.
Players this season would engage in a fierce battle for the woman of the Guinnessico, the prestigious woman of the match award at every top match.
Like last season the woman of Guinnessico is entitled to a beautiful ceremony and smiles home the sum of FCFA 50,000frs.
Players Who Left/Joined The Championship
This season opens without some players who have found fortune in clubs abroad following their brilliant performance in the Guinness Super League.
The top scorer of the 2022 season Lamine Mana now plays for AS Malot in France and more, a testimony of the quality of the local championship.
Four players have returned home to the local championship, among them Annicey Nguiadem.
Before the season opener, there was a seminar for match commissioners and focal points to keep them abreast of their roles and for a hitch-free season.
Also, referees and match assistants refreshed themselves on the rules and regulations during a training seminar at Mbankomo.
As the Professional Women’s Football League and its partner Guinness have ironed out modalities, the season would start with smooth programming.
