Cameroon base Division One outfit, Coton Sport of Garoua has recorded a goalless draw in their first Group C game against Al-Masry of Egypt in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Staged the Roumdé Adjia stadium, Coach Souleymanou Aboubakar’s formula seems not to have yielding fruits as the attacking trio Marou Souaibou, Abdouraman, Alemi Tombi could not break the deadlock.
A youthful Coton Sport side seems to have lost control in the first half of the game with only one shot on target; a free-kick from Marou Souaibou was well saved by the Al-Masry goalkeeper before the half-hour mark.
In the second segment of the games, the Egyptians side showed much to be a dangerous visitor as they came close to scoring on three occasions but failed to grab it.
The last minutes of the game favoured Coton Sport of Garoua but neither the attackers including Daouda Kamilou who came on as a substitute could hit the target.
Shortly after the game, Moïne Chaabani, Al-Masry coach pointed out the game was somehow balanced in the first half but only for the climate that worked against them. He added that they played an offensive system style of play pressing the Coton weavers on all points.
Coach Soulemanou of Coton blamed his team’s poor show on the fact that the team has not played a competitive match in the last two but admitted they could do better than what they did.
In the meantime, TP Mazembe of DRC urged AS Otoho 1-0 in another group game to seal an upper spot in Group C thanks to a goal from Cameroonian International, Emmanuel Njoh.
Coton Sport will travel to face AS Otoho in Congo in their next match on February 23 while TP Mazembe lock horns with Al-Masry of Egypt.
