The people of the northern and far northern regions are advised to wear masks, stay indoors, and close windows and doors as a dust plume is currently passing through the Northern regions and is likely to affect the eastern region.

A dust plume is a non-rotating, large cloud of dust and sand particles lifted from the ground by strong winds, often associated with thunderstorms.

“Restrict outside activities, wear protective glasses and a mask if needed, drive cautiously owing to potential decreased vision, keep windows and doors closed as much as possible, and drink plenty of water,” the press release signed by Cameroon’s Minister of Transport reads.

In addition to temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius, the National Meteorological Directorate reports that northwesterly winds can reach an average speed of 10 meters per second during this phenomenon. Dust will enter Cameroon through the Logone-et-Chari department due to the predicted weather conditions for Monday, February 16, 2026, between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m.

According to projections, this dust may potentially reach the Adamawa and Eastern areas. It is anticipated that the phenomenon will continue until Thursday, February 19, 2026, and could impact several industries, including agriculture, transportation, and health.

Citizens are encouraged to regularly follow weather updates broadcast by CRTV, on the official platforms of the National Meteorology, as well as on the Meteo Cameroon website and mobile application.
Authorities are calling for strict adherence to preventive measures to reduce the risks associated with this Saharan dust episode.
