Fabrice Ondoa, Without A Club, Is Not Performant- Antonio Conceicao
“Fabrice Ondoa, who last played for FC Ostende in the 2018/2020 season is a good player but for the past two years has been without a good club and does not have enough play time”, Cameroon Coach Antonio Conceicao told a press conference.
Though many seem to think that Cameroon, a home of goalkeepers at the moment lacks a competitive goalkeeper, Conceicao says he has information on the good goalkeepers.
Andre Onana, of Ajax Amsterdam for now is on suspension for the use of illegal substances and Fabrice Ondoa is without a club.
Cameroon coach Antonio Conceicao Da Silva talked about Ondoa after he name named his 28-man squad against Malawi.
Cameroon is set to play Malawi for the first-day qualifiers of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in September and later Ivory Coast.
“For now, we are not thinking about preparations for the African Nations Cup, AFCON, our focus is the qualifiers”, Conceicao stressed.
By December, there would be time to prepare for AFCON. The most important thing for now is to give our best during the qualifiers to make the country happy.
“If we have a good performance during the qualifier games it would facilitate our preparations for AFCON given that we have six matches before December”.
“I want to ensure that there is competitively within the players and none should think they have a cemented place in the national team”.
“My preoccupation is the game against Malawi, it is a team that will play in block and they are physically strong. We have prepared and we are ready for the battle”, Conceicoa stressed.
Talking about Joel Matip, the coach said he extended an invitation to all the players and that Matip who is in fine form with Liverpool has never expressed the wish to come back.
Matip decided to stay away from the team because of mismanagement issues.
Conceicoa is happy about the Olembe stadium where the inaugural Cameroon-Malawi game will be played.
The coach whose contract ended in September has not been renewed for now.
“My contract is coming to an end and If the government and Fecafoot still want my services, we will continue but I am not under any pressure, for now, I am doing my job”.
The only new player in his squad is Lambert Araina though the coach has promised to bring in another local player in camp ahead of the Malawi game. A big absentee is Njie Clinton.
