SOGOC Joins 16 Days Of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
The Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians of Cameroon, Sogoc, has joined the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
“Orange the world: End gender-based violence now” is the theme of the 15th edition of the 16 days campaign to end violence against women and girls in Cameroon.
The campaign starts on November 25, the International Day to eliminate violence against women, and ends on December 10, the International Human Rights Day.
In this light that the Cameroon Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians joins the national and international community for the global campaign, 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
Going by Sogoc, more than one in three women have experienced violence –about 700 million worldwide, the majority in Sub-Saharan Africa.
As a society that exists to serve the woman, Sogoc will shine the light on some of the aftermath complications of gender-based violence on the Cameroonian woman and how to reduce the complications.
The society will show her solidarity by organizing a launch ceremony on Friday, November 26, and a closing ceremony on Friday, December 10, 2021.
The goal of the campaign for Sogoc is to reduce stigma on the issue of abortion in the communal setting.
With partners, an informational campaign would be organized to create awareness on the correlation between gender-based violence and abortion.
Sogoc campaign during the 16 Days of activism is based on the following slogans:
‘I survived rape but I don’t want to have a child from rape’.
‘Destigmatise abortion and make it more accessible for eligible women’.
‘Advocating for safe abortion for rape survivors is advocating for human rights’.
Sogoc will also keep the conversation alive on her social media handles by engaging with the global campaign on ending gender-based violence.
The Centre for Women’s Leadership, at its first Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 launched the Global 16 days campaign used worldwide to call for the elimination of gender-based violence.
This year, 2021, marks the 30th anniversary of the Global 16 Days Campaign. Inspired by the original vision and history of the campaign, which focused on raising awareness about violence against women and considering the continuing impunity for femicide, the campaign will focus on femicide or gender-based related killing of women.
