CAF Subscribes To The African Super League Tournament

The Executive Council of the Confederation of African Football has given a blanc cheque for the holding of an African Super League at the just ended extraordinary assembly held in Cairo, this November 26, 2021.

The new tournament was championed by Doctor Patrice Motsepe and is expected to render African soccer competitive.

“The super league for Africa is a new competition because all those other competitions are locked into agreements and the money they get is not enough”, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe reiterated.

” There have to be fundamental changes in how we do things in football, so that African football can be noticed across the world. We do not want aid from anybody. We can work on our own and that’s what l am out for, He stressed.

Twenty teams are expected to compete in the super league, plus others who would qualify through regional play-offs.

The competition was first proposed in Europe but created some hitches between UEFA and countries association, who vehemently opposed the proposal and it was cancelled at the end.

The African Super League is inspired by the European project and is geared towards generating additional income first for clubs and their member associations.

The African soccer governing body is looking for additional revenue. For Motsepe, such a project has as objective to contribute to render African soccer competitive and self-sustaining.
