TotalEnergies AFCON 2021: Operation ‘Shield’ to Secure Stadia
Following preps for the upcoming African football jamboree to be hosted by Cameroon, Roger Milla’s country is investing in security around the stadia.
Cameroon will deploy the anti-terrorism operation “Shield” to secure the stadia across the country.
Cameroon would be hosting 24 countries and the games would be played in two pools in Yaounde, Douala, Limbe Bafoussam and Garoua.
In this vein the ministry of defense will be organizing a simulation exercise of a terrorist attack during an AFCON game.
The simulation is set to take place on September 28 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé.
On the occasion, security forces will be deployed to prevent a terrorist attack, followed by a crowd movement, a collapse of a tribune or a capture of hostages.
Going by the Minister of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo, the exercise is meant to educate and train in anticipation for the security expectation during AFCON.
Operation “Shield” will be deployed to ensure the security of the competition that runs from January 6, to February 9, 2022.
