Cameroon international and Liverpool defender, Joel Matip has been shortlisted for the Premier League player of the month award for February.
Other players who have been nominated for the award this month are Southampton’s Che Adams, Newcastle United’s Ryan Fraser, Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, Burnley’s Ben Mee and Crystal Palace’s Wilfred Zaha.
It is the first real injury-free season for the former Schalke 04 defender . He has a solid shot of actually winning this award, which would make him the third Liverpool player to claim it this season, joining Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Cameroonian played 360 minutes across the four games, scoring one amazing Messiesques goal against Leeds and a Cheeky Nutmeg assist for Diogo Jota against Leicester.
Matip only made nine Premier League appearances when Liverpool won the title in the 2019-2020 season.
His partnership with Van Djik has been almost unbreakable. The recently signed Ibrahima Konate has been relegated to the bench.
